Ginger Stir-Fry - A Remedy For Congestion

This time of year when coughs, colds, and congestion strike more often it is good to have an arsenal of easy, healing recipes on hand. We know that food has the power to harm just as it has the power to heal.

Healing Foods
{Ginger}
-Ginger contains powerful antioxidant properties.
-Ginger is classified as an antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and diaphoretic.
-It can help alleviate cold and flu discomfort by treating congestion.

{Cabbage}
-Cabbage is nutrient packed food. It is high in iron, calcium, iodine, potassium, sulfur, and phosphorus. And, it is loaded with vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E, K and folic acid.
-Cabbage has more vitamin C than an orange.
-The high sulfur content is what gives cabbage many of its healing properties.

Today, I want to share a recipe that can help you kick a cold out the door; but, you don't necessarily have to be congested to enjoy it.


Ginger Stir-Fry
-1 teaspoon olive oil, coconut oil, or butter
-6 cups cabbage cut into 4-inch slices
-1 1/2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
-1/4 cup chicken broth
-A pinch of cayenne pepper
-A pinch of salt

Directions: Saute cabbage and ginger in oil or butter for 2 minutes, stirring often. Pour bone broth over cabbage and ginger and cook the mixture until it is crisp-tender. Approximately 10 minutes. Add cayenne and salt. Serve immediately. May be eaten alone, over rice, or with quinoa.

Notes:

-For the cabbage in this recipe, you may use green, red, napa, or an type you have available.
